ServSafe Food Handler Class & Certification

The ServSafe Food Handler certification is an entry-level training program designed for anyone who works directly with food. Unlike the Manager certification, it focuses on basic, practical food safety knowledge rather than management systems

Curriculum:


 The program covers (5) core areas essential for safe food handling:
 

  • Basic Food Safety: Understanding foodborne illness, common symptoms, and the three types of hazards (biological, chemical, physical).

  • Personal Hygiene: Correct handwashing procedures, glove use, and reporting illness symptoms to a manager.

  • Time & Temperature: The Temperature Danger Zone, using thermometers, and safe practices for thawing, cooking, cooling, and reheating.

  • Cross-Contamination & Allergens: Preventing cross-contact during storage and prep, plus identifying the "Big Eight" food allergens.

  • Cleaning & Sanitation: The difference between cleaning and sanitizing, using a three-compartment sink, and recognizing pest signs.

           
     Format & Assessment:

 

  • Course Length: Approximately  2 hours.

  • Exam: A 40-question, multiple-choice test. 

  • Passing Score: You need a 75% or higher to pass.  The certificate is valid for 3 years
